Calgary Zoo June 29, 2014
June 29, 2014
This weekend I picked up a new lens for my camera, the Canon 100mm f2.8L Macro IS USM. My wife and I are members at the Calgary Zoo and we go as often as possible. I spent most of the weekend looking at the zoo from a whole different perspective.
Macro photography is really amazing to me. It reveals a new world that nobody ever sees unless they take the time to stop and really look, and how often does that happen?
I used to work as a camp councilor at Camp Chief Hector for a summer job. My favourite thing to do with the kids on a hot day was to have them lie down on the bridge that was about a foot above the swamp and count the number of different living things they could see looking straight down. Every single kid was amazed with the diversity they could find.
That moment of discovery is one of the coolest things in life, and it is something that macro photography gives me every time.
I may have spent about 8 hours at the zoo this weekend, but I can't wait to go back.
